Reinventing The Wheel: Rayne does some research (10-02-2402)

The Head of R&D at Tel Aviv was rather puzzled by the reports of Rayne’s strange research, deciding to drop in on the channeler personally as he went about the day’s activities.  When he walked in on the young Itami, he found Rayne hard at work, attempting to construct what he called his Ability Expansion Armour.  From Rayne’s description, the armour was to be designed to allow channelers to execute additional abilities, more so than could be equipped onto their form, but allowing them to store the hashes on the suit and then allow the channeler to “boot up” the hash manually for execution.  The Head of R&D found this particular approach to be rather puzzling, since he already knew the issues associated with such programs, allowing him to watch with amusement as Rayne noted them for the first time.

As experienced even by channelers with the Partial Booting ability, Rayne found that the hashes mounted on his A.E.A. had ridiculously long summon time when he attempted to boot them up manually as his form not attempted to contort the energy through the extremely complex energetic template which was not integrated into his form.  Rayne sighed loudly, registering summoning times from anywhere between a 2 to 10 seconds.  Rayne scoffed loudly now.  The only way he could see this working was if he better understood the integration technology behind the Expansion suit itself, but even then he was uncertain whether or not he could actually design an armour that allowed a channeler to Partial Boot techniques as fast as they could summon their own techniques.

With this resolved, he moved onto his Core Expander, an even stranger project which the Head of R&D simply could the reason for.  Rayne’s report explained that the young Itami was attempting to design a device which combined the ability of a core to provide energy and a hash which carried out a code function similar to that of a channeler’s techniques.  Rayne promoted these as being superior to add-ons in that they took up far less space than the bulkier devices such as pistols, rifles, gauntlets and boots that add-ons currently took the shape of; however, it seemed to be lost on the young Itami that this was simply not a technological breakthrough.  The Head of R&D would eventually leave the Itami to his own devices, figuring that he would figure out the error of his ways eventually.

Outcome: Rayne has created a number of “Core Expander” add-ons.
