Trial and Error: Donovan tries to make Organic Channelers (20-03-2403)

Much like Xian, Donovan understood that for entities to channel without utilising an atral presence, their ethereal form had to act somewhat like a sigil, whether it would be a hash, rune or glyph, it had to act in such a way that it, albeit it passively, caused ethereal energy or one of its components to become coded without the creature actively doing so.  As such, he decided to look into ways to have this creature gain experience, and level up their channelling abilities.

He would start by summoning one of his living gambits and examining it’s True Mind, so that he could get a better understanding of how this AI worked in an attempt to be able to apply this ability in his experience gaining venture.  Once this was done, he started to experiment with different concepts so that he could test his theories.  The first thing which Donovan would learn was that his probability assumption was not necessarily correct as Xian had shown that he could create organic magic channelers which did not manipulate probability.  On top of this, the creatures needed not be intelligent as his research showed a number of rather simple minded creatures, like the Crystal Mimics, who had the ability to increase their channelling potential over time.  This confused Donovan somewhat, but the young Engineer pushed on.  As he continued to run his tests, he seemed that their were simply too many exceptions for his theories to be considered rules.   Donovan sighed, at least this didn’t mean that his methods were wrong.

With this in mind, he decided to attempt to apply what he had theories into a single living gambit, a black flame breathing lion.  Donovan would start by creating the glyphs within its structure, and imparting the necessary intelligence and mental faculties.  He would then impart it with his knowledge of code, and its growth abilities as he calculated them, giving it a method of growth that he believed would allow each of its measured statistics to increase.

This in itself would take quite a long time, but it would take even longer for Donovan to actually see any results.  For testing purposes, Donovan made the creature at level 5, so that the necessary experience gains would be low allowing him to see results more quickly.  Once this was done, he allowed it to perform actions so that he could watch and see as it improved.  Unfortunately for Donovan, experience gain was a rather slow process, and with some of his ‘growth’ patterns based so heavily on probability, this made the entire thing even more slowly.  Donovan sighed loudly now, as he powered up his Omega Drive and utilised the Planet’s knowledge in order to fix his problems.

Once Omega Driven, Donovan would remove the probability aspects from his Gambits and fine-tune a few of the other growth systems, but he would soon realise that there was a fundamental problem with his underlying premise.  He seemed to be focussing too much on manual self improvement, rather than genetically coded growth.  If he wanted this to work, he would need to approach it from another direction.  Donovan just sighed again as he continued to work until his stamina dwindled, today would be his least productive day to date.

Outcome:  Donovan has made a gambit with the potential to gain experience, however its experience gains are much slower than that of real world channelers.
