Clearing the Air: Jubei has a chat with The Eldest (12/08/2403)

Unlike his superior Deacon who accepted the Eldest’s words at face value and agreed to honour them, Jubei felt better if he understood the exact meaning of the Eldest’s words, to ensure that he nor his teammate would unknowingly cross the line drawn in the sand by the Eldest.  This was somewhat surprising for the Eldest, but after some consideration, he accepted that it was indeed best for Jubei to come to him now before their ‘clans’ came to a conflict.

The Eldest would do his best to explain the terms of his statement.  He explained that he now had some knowledge of the political system which the Xelots were accustomed to in Terra, and he had some basic understanding of the ongoing feud between the Xelots and the Demai.  He also noted that he could sense how strong the competition had gotten between the Xelots and their Mercenary rivals in the race to acquire the Shrine’s secrets.  The Eldest would then go on to explain that he did not expect the Xelots to simply sit back and allow others to walk over them, but from what he understood of their core philosophies, it was up to them to take the moral high ground on such matters and to not stupse to the tactics of tyranny and petty tricks in order to get what they wanted.

Jubei nodded as he took this in, doing his best to understand where his personal view of what was necessary to enforce order over chaos ended and where the absolute moral high-ground in which the Xelots Army was expected to follow began.  Jubei would easily admit that despite his strong belief in the Xelot cause, he was far from what many, including a number of his superiors, would expect of a Xelot Knight.  But in the same breath, he had to admit that despite his personal indulgences, he genuinely stroke to uphold the Xelot name.  This was honesty that the Eldest could appreciate from the youngster.

Jubei, ever zealous would then go on to try to forge an alliance between the de’rak clan and the Xelot Army, but despite his best efforts, the Eldest would simply not be forth coming with his acceptance.  The Eldest would agree that their relationship as the previous and current guardians of the secrets of the Shrine would hold some merit; making an open invitation to the Xelot Army to request their technical assistance to ensure that they did not accidentally misuse the technology.  But despite this, the de’rak clan was a very neutral and for the most part anti-social clan, so it would not be in their nature to ally with a ‘clan’ with such a strong moral and righteous stance, especially one which was so vocal about their path.  Jubei would do his best to work around the Eldest’s reasoning, but at the end of the day he would be forced to accept that their alliance would not be happening.

Regardless, Jubei would still extend the offer of Xelot assistance if the de’rak clan were to ever be in need, an offer which the Eldest accepted with a word of caution.  He would thank Jubei for the gesture, but he would remain the young channeler that his clan was not one that lacked power.  Jubei would smile in acceptance of this fact, but would let the noble dragon know that the offer stood regardless.  The Eldest would be amused as the ambitious channeler left, definitely pleased by the youngsters sincerity, even as he considered the gestures to be extremely pointless.

Outcome: The de’rak clan has denied a direct alliance with the Council of Xelot, but has accepted their offer for assistance should the need arise in the future.  The de’rak clan has offered to assist the Xelots in ensuring that they do not abuse the power bestowed on them by the progression shrine, but have made it clear that they would not aid them otherwise in developing technology.
