Building The Better Core: Donovan does some labwork (24/09/2403)

With a new concept provided by Mavrick along with Donovan’s own ingenuity, the young Engineer sat down and prepared to improve the ECS system which he had designed for his faction.  Before he did this, he had sent off the Tyranis which he and Xian had captured for scanning, allowing him to focus completely on the task at hand.

The creation of this upgraded ECS would involve a base process similar to the first, however this one would be designed to produce a high ether inductive force, while using the Genesis Break technology and the CAFEM technology to increase its output and effectively boost the ‘channeling force’ of the device.  All and all, the effects of the prototype ‘crystal’ seemed to exceed that of the original ECS units, burning out far slower than previous units when they ran the calculations.

Despite this, there were still some issues with the device.  The device was designed to grow on its own through the process of ethereal lithification, while utilising a unique energy type provided by Mavrick to act as a basic multiplier and creation assistant.  However, the young Engineer would soon realise that while this ‘multiplier’ did assist with the acquisition and lithification of energy, these new ‘Crazy Straw Crstals’ of CSCs still retained the problem that the ECSs had.  Like most energy multipliers, Mavrick’s energy type was a ‘charge multiplier’ one which increased the charge rate of a process rather than its base system point value, much like Donovan’s own Nautilus which provided the base for the system’s induction engine.  This meant that the crystal was essentially using up energy to draw in more energy, which then had to be converted into the format of the CSC.  This made induction in CSCs slightly slower than in actual Cores, due to a coding bottleneck of new incoming energy, and meant that over time as the induction rate continued to exceed the coding rate, the CSC would eventually break down.

As expected, Genesis Break helped with the energetic induction, working better to multiply the energy that had been coded into the CSC Core Induction function rather than boosting the actual output of the device.  This slowed the effects of the code bottleneck effect considerably, increasing the shelf-life of these new units dramatically.  Unfortunately however, as a system which simply increased outputs and not channelling force, there was little that the Genesis Break technology could do to increase the ‘channeling force boosting’ effect of the Mercenary CAFEMs.

Donovan would experiment with a number of set ups for these new more organic energy supplement systems, shifting the location of the Genesis Break Effects and fiddling with the energy siphon and growth rates of the device as well before he came upon the optimal configuration for the CSCs.  Unfortunately, this would force him to sacrifice dramatically high outputs for shelf-life, preventing these from being implemented in the building of Ship Class Point Cores, as Donovan quickly noted that they would simply burn out too fast if the ships were used day to day.

Once he was done with this, he would make his way over to the other section of the R&D Facility where he would check up on the progress of the Tyranis Deep Scans.  At first Donovan had feared that the creature would have some kind of self destruct mechanism to protect it from being copied, but he would soon realise that Oyans were a bit more advanced with the ethereal security systems for their intellectual property than he had imagined.  He would realise that the Deep Scans was able to map the creature completely but still could not figure out the source of its ability.  The creature’s entire biological make up seemed to be comprised of what he could only consider to be some kind of ethereal chaff; latent junk data, biological, genetic and ethereal factors, imbedded into its regular systems.  This meant that with an intense ethereal replicator, they could clone the creatures in perfect working order, but they could not actually break down the specific genetic elements which had been modified to create the creature’s unique abilities.  Donovan laughed lightly, that was indeed well played on the creator’s part.

He would inquire to R&D whether or not they could sift through the junk and eventually find the function, a question to which they answered affirmatively.  Unfortunately, it would take time and luck, so they could be at the task for months to even years.  Needless to say, the Mercenary Army was not interested in such a difficult task for the replication of an ability that Donovan would probably create from scratch given some thought.  The creature still interested Donovan considerably, especially its unique ‘copyright’ system.  Donovan would asked to be put in charge of researching the creature and most importantly, ensuring its well-being during and after research tests.  His request would be tentatively granted.

Outcome: Donovan was designed and worked out most of the kinks out of the ECS upgrades to the CSC.  The Tyranis ability has not been effectively determined.
