Force Meets Force: Rogues, Crackdown II Mission. (07/11/2401)

With so much time having passed between the assault on the Don’s facility and the next Rogue Mission, the general paranoia of the Italian Mafia had died down quite a bit.  Regardless of this fact however, their defences had been fortified as a result of the last Rogue attack, and they had taken the bulk of their operations underground.  Despite this however, the information that had been extracted from the Don still compromised a number of their major warehouses, which would have been too dangerous to move.  It was these facilities that the Rogues scoped out with their surveillance satellite to before they plotted their attacks.  In addition to this recon, Jinzo, Seig and their subordinates also assisted the Rogue forces in their reconnaissance, collecting more first hand data by scoping out the facility in the guise of tourists.  Jinzo’s method was particularly bold, and had it not been for his extremely high level of persuasive abilities, he would probably have found himself sleeping with the fishes, but luckily, this was not the case.

Jinzo, under the guise of a tourist looking to migrate to Italy, entered the warehouse in search of work, inquiring as to any jobs that he could possibly acquire in the facility.  Needless to say, he was dismissed, but it did at least give him a chance to look around on the inside and collect information that could be transmitted back to the Rogues.  In fact, the reconnaissance stage actually went remarkably well, until Kenshin made a simple mistake.  As usual, Kenshin’s stealth skills were superb, and utilising his usual method, he had managed to sneak into the ventilation system of one of the warehouses.  Unfortunately, his back up proved to be his downfall.  Kenshin had decided that it would be best to coordinate with the outside teams while he and his Ghost infiltrated the facility, but this required that he maintained contact with the other teams via the use of his comm. link.  These transmission were the only things that alerted the internal security guards to his presence, forcing the Rogues to jump the gun on the attack.

“Shit…”  Paco cursed under his breath, assuming the Mission Coordinator title for this mission.  “Okay team, everyone move to Kenshin’s warehouse, I’ll meet you there with the Terrapin.”  He called, causing the Xelots to scatter and get off the roads, while the rest of the Rogues homed into the facility.

Leonardo would be the first onto the seen with his Zeta Wing, releasing his Soul Call modified Screw Driver Missiles into the facility.  Like their regular function, the missiles drilled into the armour of the facility, before exploding with Soul Call which spread like wild fire over the base.  Leonardo smiled now as the Terrapin materialised behind his Zeta Wing.  The second the ship arrived, a cannon class armament assembled on the warehouse facility and took aim at the Terrapin, causing Leonardo to bank hard to the side to avoid the Photon Stream that now impacted the Terrapin’s shield, instantly sending the shield’s offline.

“What the fuck!” Paco exclaimed, as he pondered how it was that they could manage to retrofit a cannon onto a facility that was technically smaller than an Outpost class facility.

Luckily, between the remaining light assault vehicles, especially with Leonardo’s Soul Call Missiles, they would be able to take out the cannon before it could fire again, leaving the lightly damaged Terrapin to deal with the remainder of the external defences.  Paco could only shake his head as he ran the damage assessment on the Terrapin, only to see Leonardo swoop down past the Terrapin and blast off the doors with his Piercing Laser before her and his Armadillo dismounted.  Kenshin barely managed to dodge the door as it flew past him, clipping his Ghost subordinate as it hurled into the wall and pinned two of the security guards to the wall.  Hyaku and Sun Lee rushed in, moving ahead of Leonardo, who stayed back as long range support.  Once again however, they would realise that their attacks had been planned for, and even despite the lax security, these previous plans, proved to be quite effective.

The hail of whistlers that broke out now sent Hyaku and Sun Lee into hiding near instantaneously, forcing Leonardo to cover them as best as he could while the Rogues tried to formulate a counter strat.  By now, the rest of the forces had arrived, but Leonardo ensured that they didn’t move in; as much as he would have enjoyed watching them get reverted, he understood that if they didn’t pass the mission he wouldn’t get paid, which was bad.  The flares and smoke bombs would come next, flooding the room with bright smoke, something that they hoped would make them harder to hit, but with the ethereal scanners of everyone on both teams, this was pretty much a wasted action.

This left the teams with a bit of a stand off now, as Kenshin was now forced to figure out where everyone was with getting himself killed.  This proved to be quite difficult with the smoke, as his movement caused slight disturbances, which were more easily picked up on, getting him shot quite a number of times before he could get any useful information.  Loki’s Odin’s Eyes Ex suffered the same fate while attempting to collect tactical data, collecting very minimal data that could be used.  Luckily, they collected just enough for Hyaku to break the stalemate, powering up his Omega Drive and utilising his increased phasing ability to phase slash the first of the security team.  This forced a number of the Whistler wielders to turn to attack Hyaku, allowing Sun Lee to Dragon Flash in and assist him.  Leonardo broke for the roof, charging his Soul Call and raining it down on them, while the others utilising their long range attacks to support them as well.

This was not the cleanest method of dealing with them, but it worked well enough, and the damage that everyone sustained was acceptable, leaving the general health of the team at around 80%.  A massive explosion on the outside would alert them to the fact that they were being pinned down now, as the security forces from the other facilities, and those located underground had put them in a form of pincer attack.  Luckily, the attacks rained down by the Terrapin and the other Vehicles outside had stopped the from being instantaneously wiped out, allowing Nicola, Haezor and the frame operators to mount a defensive against this pincer team.

As the PHR unit deployed now as well, it cleared the way for the Terrapin to drop the Mobile Turrets in an attempt to even the odds while the main strike force made its way outside.  Nicola’s high power output and Haezor’s tanking ability allowed them at least survive until the others got there, allowing the heavy hitters like Loki, Paco, Leonardo, Hyaku and Zadavia to clear the foes around them while they retreated to the back of the melee team so Jinzo to heal them.  Despite these numbers however, the Rogue Special Forces still found themselves grossly overwhelmed on the ground, leaving their air force to once again be the determining factor in the battle.  As the air force drove their attackers back, they retreated into the warehouse facility which they had already secured, guarding the door to the best of their ability.  The Hot Gates approach to the battle slowed things down long enough for their air support to even things out, allowing the extremely heavy hitters to actually turn the battle in the favour of the Rogues.  It wouldn’t be long before the Mafia began to retreat, forcing the Rogues to intensify their attack in an effort to trap and incapacitate the majority of the gangsters, so that they could be apprehended.

With the battle completed, they did a damage assessment now, noting the team’s overall health to be somewhere near 50%, with the range combatants enjoying the least damage, while the more melee oriented channelers like Sun Lee and Haezor finding themselves closer to reversion.  Jinzo got to work now, doing his best to heal the team with his Banshees, a task that was particularly difficult when he considered some of the high health tanks like Haezor and Nicola.  In fact, the entire ordeal left Jinzo quite drained, meaning that if they were to find themselves this damaged again, healing them would leave Jinzo very near to a soft reversion.

With this in mind, the teams moved out again, moving in on the next warehouse in their sights.  Fortunately, the element of surprise could not be used against them again, but this only lowered the difficulty of the exercise by a fraction, as they were still not equipped with the abilities to flawlessly take out the facility.  Once again, the Terrapin would take shot from the facility’s Photon Cannon, and once again the cannon would be taken out before it could do any further damage.  However, Leonardo entertained the idea of being pinned down by Whistler fire even less this time, peeling off the top of the warehouse with his Piercing Laser before releasing two of his Soul Call missiles down into the facility and watching it go up in flames.  His team did not necessarily agree with this strategies as it maximised casualties, but they had to admit that it minimised damage to the team.  As the survivors fled the building to avoid being consumed by the flames, the ground team would pick them all off, making their job infinitely easier than it was in previous battles, and cutting down on the damage taken by individual members of the team.  They would be able to take out the remaining four facilities using this strategy, losing only around 15% of the total health of the team on each run, making it less imperative for Jinzo to heal them after every run.

The operation would finish late into the evening, with the vehicles sustaining heavy damages.  Luckily, Jinzo would be able to heal the team for the most part before he soft reverted from lack of stamina.  The Rogues would be forced to retreat to their installations to avoid a retaliatory strike by the remaining underground mafia members, and sit out their repairs.

Outcome: All of the major warehouses owned by the Mafia have been destroyed, but none of the important members could be apprehended on this day.  The Mafia has gone underground.
