Finishing Things Up: Mercenaries infiltrate Genesis Shrine (12/08/2403)

Like the Xelots before them, the Mercenaries seemed to abandon striving for efficiency in favour of more brute force tactics, which saw the three man team increase to over twenty participants in total.  This made for a particularly easy run, overall.  The team would spend sometime on the outside preparing themselves, enhancing each other with Astral based buffs and material equipment which would not suffer a reduction of effectiveness in the Shrine before they moved in and activated the console yet again.  This was rather easy and soon they found themselves within the shrine.  With the increased assistance, breaching the barrier at the entrance was a cinch, and with them sticking together rather than splitting up into groups, even through their movement through the facility was not executed perfectly, it was simply statistically impossible for everyone present to be trapped at the same time.

While some of them tripped traps, the others would split up and work to free their teammates and destroy the traps.  Initially this would happen quite often despite their attempts at scanning, no doubt due to them needing to accustom themselves to the odd effects of the stability field, but after a while, their ability to detect traps and destroy them before they activated increased dramatically.  By the time that they had made it through the first branch of the facility, they had reached the point where trap detonation had become rather rare, and with their combined abilities, they found that they were able to dispatch an automated offensive units stations within the facility with relative ease.  L’Qatu was particularly helpful in these cases as his form was quite accustomed to simply not externalising energy at all, and with his matter based abilities being boosted considerably, his teammates got very accustomed to the hail of body parts making short work of the dense matter golems that sought to end their ruin’s run.

Once this first branching path was clear and the artefact retrieved, the second branch would be handle more smoothly, allowing them to get through it, disable the traps, fend off the golems and retrieve the artefacts with relative ease, leaving just the central pathway to be dealt with last.  Admittedly, this pathway was considerably more difficult to infiltrate, even with their stealthy approach, but at the end of the day, the sheer numbers of the Mercenary Army were enough to overwhelm any offense which they faced.  Even the powerful final entity which they faced, a powerful humanoid creature made of the same ethereal diamond lattices which the stasis weapons trapped them in, fell to them faster than would be expected by most.  With him out of the way, the team would take the final artefact and the generator from the facility, shutting down its powerful ethereal ‘nerfing’ effects, allowing them to make their way out with relative ease.  On the outside of the facility, they would find that the mist which had shrouded the entrance of the Shrine was also gone, along with the barrier that had prevented their entry.

Interestingly enough, the mist that shrouded the console at the base of the monolith was still intact, forcing them to make their way some distance from the rock before they had their findings transported back to Fort David.  Bayman would complement everyone on a mission well done before he dismissed them all.

Outcome:  The Mercenaries have successful infiltrated the Shrine and retreaved the necessary artefacts within, they have also acquired the facility’s generator which has been transported back to Fort David.
