More Information Gathering: Rei continues to investigate the Arc (25/08/2403)

Rei had spent the last four days gathering information on the native language of the people who had lived in the Arc, doing her best to decipher the symbols which she found on the strange door that sealed off the restricted area from the rest of the internal environment.  This had been a rather time consuming process, one that she had simply not had enough time to complete, but luckily, by now she did have an idea of what some of the symbols either stood for or were associated with.  Symbols like entrance and exit were easy to pick up, whereas it took her somewhat longer to grasp symbols like danger, restricted and an interesting variation of restricted that seemed to more closely approximate sealed or imprisoned.  Over the few days she would also learn a few other symbols, but these five seemed to be the most important ones that she learned, as the closely correlated to variations of the symbols found on the door.  These variations were larger and bolder, Rei could only assumed that this simply meant that an emphasis should be apply.

Rei would begin her translation of the door which, from what she could gather stated something about the Arc having been sealed off from entry (she assumed external entry).  She would not fully grasp the symbols after that, but she would pick out the symbols for danger and restricted among the symbols before an odd variation of exit combined with restricted symbol at the end.

“Restricted exit...”  She paused and pondered, repeating it a number of times before she deduced that it would have to mean prevent-exit, rather than restricted one.

Unfortunately, this would not give her much insight into what the door actually required to open it in terms of symbols, for this she would need to do some more exploration.

Luckily for the young Selen, today she had some such exploration planned.  The first thing she would check was to see if she could disperse the reality reflecting effect which the facility seemed to produce when attacked.  For the most part, given that he attacks were low output, she found that she could dissipate the energy easily, but oddly enough, she didn’t seem to be able to stop the effect itself.  With this noted, she would then go on to scan the restricted area using her various sonar-esque methods, which generally included her creating massive shockwaves and waiting for the reverberations.

Unfortunately, he various scans of the walls, floors, the door itself and other parts of the barrier that separated the restricted area from the rest of the Arc would not reveal any feasible path of entry.  Despite the door and walls not being particularly thick, they seemed to be extremely sturdy, to the point where compromising them with actual force seemed to be impossible.  The fact that they also seemed to either be comprised of or at least resistant to ether of all types, and Rei would assume the rest of the Universal Life Force components, would quickly leave Rei to assume that this restricted area was not built to keep people like her out, but it was built to keep something most likely more powerful than herself in.  This was confirmed by her scans with Deterge and Litany as she realised that the facility did not react negatively to these two techniques interestingly enough, but simply resonated in sync with them as it ensured that it was still in full working order.

Luckily, this method of ‘scrubbing’ the facility, would allow her to get a feel for the texture of the symbols now, allowing her to read them like ‘brail’ using her ethereal sense and sensory superiority.  As she did this, she realised that the symbols themselves tended to have a weak ‘coding’ effect, subtlely manipulating her energy as her mind’s fingers rolled over them.  This made it easier to understand the variations of each of the symbols now, and allowed Rei to better understand a few of the ones that she was forced to leave out.

Now it seemed that the door stated that the Arc was designed as a prison, sealing off a ‘great danger’ from what she could only assume was a symbol for Gaia, to prevent their exit back into, again what she assumed was Gaia.  As she ‘read’ this now, this part of the story would vanish and another would flash across the door, possessing even more symbols that Rei did not understand.  At this point, Rei would realise that she was not going to be ‘breaking into’ the restricted area, and understood that he best chance for entry lay in her translation.  She would spend the rest of the day interpreting symbols instead.

Outcome: By the end of the day, Rei was able to understand the ‘story’ behind the Arc, using her crude translations, Ethereal Insight and Ethereal Instinct.  She learned that the inhabitants of the Arc appear to be human, most likely yet another predecessor or our version of humanity.  They were sealed, and she deduced willingly, due to their decadent nature which made them a potential threat to the planet itself.  The Arc was their home, where they were allowed to live freely before some violation of their agreement with Gaia resulted in them being sealed off in the restricted area.  They were most likely what she would find there.
