Need For Access:
Mavrick searches for a way
to open the vault (31/08/2403)
Once again Mavrick and Concept used
their Console class ability to interface with the vault’s lock in an attempt to
discern what type of lock it was and how it operated. However they would not
learn anything new. The lock was a physical device and there did not appear to
be a place for a key. Like last time they would conclude that a code was
required to unlock the vault.
Next the group would turn their
attention to the defeated automated unit to see if it held any clues on how to
access the vault. Mavrick and Concept attempted to scan the unit’s systems and
Console with it but found nothing useful. They, along with Mavrick’s Vetira,
then attempted to repair its non combat systems but would get nowhere since they
did not possess enough technical to figure out this technology from a different
reality. Further, Vetiras were combat advisors unlike Pteras which would have
been better suited to the task. Next they attempted to copy its databanks but
realised they had been corrupted. Whether this was a failsafe feature or the
result of their battle, the two could not be sure. In any event it was unlikely
that a mere automated defence unit would possess information on how to access
that which it was programmed to prevent access to.
The group would then proceed to
explore the rest of the facility with Seraph again utilising her Force Armour in
a dispersed state to extend her sensory range. Their main goal was to locate a
control room in an attempt to gain control over the whole facility. They soon
came upon what appeared to be an access terminal. Mavrick and Concept interfaced
with it through Console while also trying their hand at the terminal’s physical
interface. They would have an easier time through their Unique class ability
since the terminal’s interface was completely foreign to them. They could not
understand the language they came across but fortunately they would find a
diagram of sorts which seemed to depict the layout of the facility. They would
use this to eventually find a large office room. Simply breaking off the lock
would grant them entry into the luxurious room. Mavrick could only assume this
to be the office of whoever ran the facility. This along with what he had
noticed about the rest of the facility’s interior lead him to believe the
facility belonged to a Corporation.
The three Mercenaries proceeded to
search the office for a means of accessing the vault and Seraph would find a
small hand held device inside a drawer. Having Consoled with the device they
deduced it to be the equivalent of a data pad.
“If this belonged to whoever ran this
place then it probably holds the combination to the vault lock.” Concept stated.
However they would not be able to
access any information in the device.
“Maybe if we could somehow link this
device with the lock we might get somewhere?” Concept suggested after giving it
some thought.
“I guess we can try a thing.” Mavrick
responded before calling it a day.
Outcome:
The Mercenaries have found what appears to be a data device which they believe
holds the key to opening to the vault.
