Progress Made: Rei continues to familiarise herself with the Arc (08/09/2403)

Rei had spent more than a week familiarising herself with the technology in the Arc.  For the most part, she realised that it was indeed Arcane, being based on a technological system that was not even remotely related to any technological systems that she was familiar with.  Luckily however, unlike most other Arcane technology, these artefacts were based purely on material technology.  Rei found this to be very interesting, given the Reality Manipulation involved in the creation of the Arc, which would suggest a complete mastery of Life Force itself.  Regardless of this, even if the effects of the technology had wider ethereal effects, the basic coding was primarily material.

This allowed Rei to begin understanding the technology more quickly than she would have otherwise, especially given her strong Material affinity.  This, when combined with her developing mastery of the electromagnetic spectrum, gave her a rather unique insight into the technology present.  She would have to admit that there were some devices which she could not understand, purely due to the sheer complexity of it and all the interlinking systems, but from what she could understand, nothing present in the facility seemed to be other-worldly, suggesting that unlike Heiarch’s line, this version of humanity did not possess abilities that seemed to break the rules of physics.

They did approach material ‘science’ rather differently from current humanity, not bothering much with combining a number of smaller physical reactions to produce a single bigger reaction, but instead sought the bend reality to produce the desired effects without any intermediate steps.  This tended to annoy Rei’s Reality Filter a great deal, as she did not experience the nice progression of events in the way that she was accustomed to.  Luckily for Rei, the theory behind that technique still held true even for their technology, she just needed to react more quickly to the half-way states than she would was she using standard Terran or Oyan technology.

As she realised this, she now began to get a feel for how to use the technology, bringing her back to how she had reactivated the Arc’s stealth in the first place.  Each item of technology tended to be in a ‘pre-activation’ state, which simply required the completing of a material circuit to get the device started.  Once this was accomplished, the device would carry out its function to the very end, in the case of the stealth, indefinitely.  Changing the function of technology, even minutely, from small tasks to changing the volume of a sound device or the speed of their version of a blender for instance, literally required the material augmentation of the basic ethereal circuit.  For them, this would have been as simple as turning a dial, but for Rei the process was considerably more involved.  She would have to mentally reverse engineer the technology to figure out what to tweak.  Luckily, with her natural Reconfigure ability this would be somewhat easier and for the more difficult tasks, there would be something in the way of an instruction manual, but she would need to get her ethereal projector up and running.

By the beginning of her training, Rei would have no idea where to start with such a devise, but after the weeks of technological research she would eventually realise that it was a simple and not so simple task, all at the same time.  Her problem was her modularisation of the technology, which left her with a great need for components, a need that was hard to fulfil when she was so unsure of what everything on the Arc did.  Once she had gotten a feel for the technology however, she realised that ethereal projection was one of their simpler technologies, as it functioned on a principle very similar to her own energy stat.  Instead of building such a device, she would reconfigure one which she found for such a purpose, turning what she could only assume to have been some kind of entertainment device, into a small ether projector.

With this she would be able to decode all of the information which she found within the Arc’s database, to really get a feel for the Arc history... it would be quite the informational overload.  Rei would learn of the history of these people, whose powers seemed to resemble that of many of the legendary pantheons.  These channelers did not have extensive ability lists like modern channelers, they tended to only have a single ability, but their mastery over it was almost absolute.  A single channeler for instance could control all of the air or water within their area of influence with a level of dexterity that seemed to put Boss-tier channelers with even the highest precision and control stats to shame.  Their abilities were simply godlike.  Unfortunately, like many of the ancient pantheons, they seemed to treat the planet with little respect, doing what they wanted when they wanted, not caring much about how they disrupted the natural balances with their very direct form of channeling.

This would lead to their current fate, Rei read with a sigh, noting that it was such a waste that this race had to be lost simply due to their careless channelling practices.  If she was right, there was nothing inherently wrong with how they channelled, unlike Heiarch and his line, they simply were not responsible enough to use their powers wisely.  Another sigh would escape her lips as she got back to her reading.

“Wow... this is a lot of information.”

Outcome: Rei is now able to understand the bulk of the Arc’s technology, and can read just about all documents found in its database.  She had since learned that the construct which equates to the ‘control room’ is located deep under the local sea, she will need to travel there if she wants to manually override the facility’s stealth and reopen its doors so that she could leave.  All she would need to figure out when she got there was how she was going to move it, if that was even possible.
