Now That’s Cold: Crydus and Fyst attempt Cryogenia quest (08/09/2403)

With Fyst’s arrival, Crydus would have all that he needed to make his way towards the Lurk.  Fyst and Mirage would be in charge of the team’s stealth, utilising the Mercenary Combat suit as well as their natural stealth to keep themselves from being noticed while Crydus and the others followed their lead.

The Mercenary combat suit would make Fyst and Mirage almost undetectable to the Lurk, but their stealth abilities would not be strong enough to make Crydus and his unit undetectable as well.  This put the Lurk on high alert as the influx of channelling spikes increased, causing it to become extremely aggressive.  Crydus sighed, this was no doubt its Ragnus territorial nature which it was acting on, and sure enough an ice based elemental beam would make its way toward Crydus.  Crydus would use his elemental control to deflect the beam as the rest of the team shielded the effects.  Once the attack would aptly dissipated, the group would split off, splitting the Lurk’s attentions while Crydus initiated his plans.

Fyst, being the strongest present would concentrate his Ætherion into a steady beam of energy, impacting the Lurk’s form and turning its attention to him now.  This would give Crydus enough time to summon his Tabula Rasa and send it off to flank the Lurk now.  Once this was done, the others would join in to get the creature’s attention.  Within seconds it would take to the air, much to Crydus’ annoyance as it evaded his Tabula Rasa summon that was making its way towards the Lurk.  As it did this, the lurk would make a pass, blasting the area with its ice breath and managing to trap both Max and Mirage in icy cases before it came around for another pass.

Gale’s Sniper Stone and Auriani’s Knight Bow would instantly target the Lurk, assisting Fyst in the long range assault while Crydus’ elemental fire went to work melting the icy cases that trapped the two subordinates.  Unfortunately, the ranged assaults would not be enough to stop the Lurk from making its next pass, making its way straight for Maxwell and Mirage.

Crydus would smirk as it did, relocating the Tabula Rasa to intercept the Lurk while the others did their best to slow it.  Crydus would activate his Omega Drive the second the Lurk impacted the Tabula Rasa construct before it converted itself into a spatial anomaly, using Spazi’s Rune.  Crydus would waste no time pumping the field full of Geon energy, stabilising it to prevent the Lurk from breaking free before he used Elesys’ Rune to reverse the polarity of the technique, to create a powerful destabilisation field.

For this, Crydus would Omega Blitz the effect, attempting now to split the Lurk conglomeration into its component parts.  This would take quite a great deal of effort, but with his Beta Drive and Drive Gear helping the effect, it wouldn’t be long before this single powerful Lurk was split into its component parts.  This took the level 40 lurk down to two considerably lower level entities approaching Crydus’ level.  This allowed them to instantly swarm the two components with their Omega Blitzes, divding up their attacks as they tried to dispatch the creatures instantly.  Fyst’s Ætherion and Mirage’s Slithers would drill the first of the two components into the ground while Crydus and his Omega Blitzing subordinates concentrated their fire on the other.

Both attacks would damage their targets considerably, but would not prove to be enough to actually dispatch the targets.  Luckily, Crydus would have already planned for this, between each of his subordinates, their opponents were being hazed.  Gale would haze their techniques, while Auriani focused on restricting their energy flow.  Max would also help to prevent them from getting off techniques.

Unfortunately for the team, even with their combined skills, they were simply not strong enough to hold down two level 28 Lurks.  The resulting explosion of their ability would send the four player level channelers flying, dispatching Mirage in the process, while heavily damaging the others.

Crydus would rush into the fray with his Council of Elements to flood the battlefield with Heat imbued summons, while Fyst focuses his wave manipulation on the generation of concentrated microwaves in an attempt to collapse the icy environment down on their opponents.  Unfortunately, with the subordinates no longer restraining the Lurks, they would not stay put to be trapped.  A special warp would be felt before they both vanished, with the Ragnus imbued Lurk taking to the skies while the second Lurk which possessed the abilities of the Crystal Mimic and Liora skittered off across the ground.

Both channelers would reposition themselves to put their forms between their targets and their subordinates, before the redirected their fire towards their already wounded targets.  Crydus, being the more mobile of the two would track the draconic lurk, while Fyst used his prior experience with Crystal Mimics to deal with the other.  For neither channeler would this be an easy task, especially for Fyst who was greatly out-matched in terms of power by his opponent, but luckily, each of the Lurks had already taken more than half their healths’ worth of damage.

Crydus would use his myriad of elemental abilities to deal with the creature, while his subordinates took Mirage and fled back to the ship.  This would give him and Fyst a full opportunity to deal with the weakened creatures.  This would lead to a drawn out battle, given both of the channeler’s comparatively low direct damage potential, but with their opponents already having been weakened, they would eventually manage to bring the two separate Lurks down.

Outcome: Upon defeating the Lurks, the spatial warping energy which had facilitated the bond between the two Lurks coalesced around Crydus and Fyst, imbuing them both with a unique ability.  Both channelers now possess the ability to safely assimilate even potentially harmful environmental effects and use these effects to boost their forms.
