Struggling For Access: Mavrick and subordinates continue Need For Speed (10/09/09)

Mavrick and Concept began their next attempt at opening the vault by once again utilising their Console ability to interface with the lock. However this time they would also Console with the device they had found to effectively interface with both devices at the same time in order to attempt to form a bridge between the devices. Concept then projected into reality a device specifically conceptualised to act as a bridging mechanism.

Mavrick had intended to utilise the Unique Uplink ability but Concept would inform his commanding officer that one needed to have an Interface based Special equipped in order to utilise this ability.

“But I do have an Interface based Special equipped.” Mavrick stated in confusion.

“No you don’t.” Both Seraph and Concept responded simultaneously.

Now Mavrick was even more confused.

“That Special does not remotely do any form of interfacing. However its actual function might still be useful for our task, just not in the way you have in mind.” Concept revealed.

“....pshh, see I knew this was the move to use.” Mavrick responded as if he actually had a clue.

“Sure Sir, if you say so.” Concept replied.

Mavrick then instructed Concept to utilise his System Insight to see if he could identify the data they needed to open the vault. While this did remove the need to unlock the device, the young Unique did not possess nearly enough Awareness to even identify the area the code was likely to be. Further there was still the issue of the language barrier but if Concept did possess the necessary Awareness, the foreign language would be less of an issue given the nature of System Insight.

“Gah!” Mavrick exclaimed in frustration.

Concept on the other hand seemed to expect this result knowing full well his own limits unlike his commanding officer. The Unique would then suggest to Mavrick to activate his Immortality Drive and guide him on how this ability could aid them. Mavrick also utilised his Probability Mastery and Faith Manifest. What proceeded next would be the lengthy trial and error attempt to get the vault lock to react to the data on the handheld device.

Meanwhile Seraph would attempt to teleport her Summon Lionheart into the vault. This involved having him travel through the Astral Realm and attempt to make it back into the Ethereal Realm within the room. Unfortunately, upon attempting to leave the Astral Realm Lionheart would find himself forcefully shunted back to his Summoner’s location in the Ethereal Realm before bursting into code and leaving Seraph with the resulting mental backlash.

This would interrupt Mavrick and Concept from their attempt.

“Ohhhh welllll.” Mavrick exclaimed.

Concept would simply look at his commanding officer and shake his head while being thankful that he was not a Summoner.

The two would then get back to work while Seraph recovered. It would take them quite a while but with Mavrick increasing the probability of the vault lock and code linking together, they would eventually be successful.

The Mercenaries would wait as the vault audibly unlocked and then swing it open. They walked inside to find a device on a table and Mavrick would smile as he picked it up.

“All mine.” The Merc would say to himself, eyes open wide at the prize he held in his hands.

Outcome: Mavrick has retrieved the device from the vault but would not be handing it over to Archel Industries just yet. Quest Complete
