Symbiotic Bond
As the world slipped away and sleep embraced her, the dark skinned, dark haired woman ploughed quickly through the phases of this resting action, reaching Rapid Eye Movement just seconds after losing consciousness. This usually signalled a precognitive episode, which, had she been aware of its eminence, would have put the woman in some distress. These visions, though extremely infrequent, were never particularly pleasant for the woman, who, being a natural psychic as well as an accomplished psychic channeler, viewed these future events with exceedingly painful clarity.
As the onset of the vision began to become more obvious, she tried to stop the process, a task which she attempted each time, and one which she would fail at each time as well. She now felt herself being hurled through time, to the moment of the event. As usual with these episodes, she could deduce, approximately, the length of time which she had been hurled into the future. Strangely enough, despite her relatively unfamiliar surroundings, she sensed that this event would be very soon. This was strange to her, as the surroundings in which she found herself seemed to be on fire, suggesting some form of catastrophic event, which was worrying in itself. What made it even more worrying was the sight of two of her sons in the midst of those flames. Behind them stood of squadron of ether channelers, who she estimated to be strong Players and some who had recently acquired their Boss status. Across from them however now stood a number of persons from whom she could not sense any energy channelling capability.
Strangely enough, they all withstood the raging flames. The channelers used various defensive techniques and their natural deflection to keep the flames at bay, but the non-channelers just seemed to be able to bare the heat, a strange feat if she had even seen one.
“Meta-humans…” The man who stood at the front of the non-channelers scoffed. “…your day has ended.”
“On please…” A faded figure replied now. “So what, you trick yourselves out a bit and all of a sudden you’re on our level… don’t joke me.” He continued as she now identified the image as her son Roun, who was amidst the channelers. “All you are, are Power-Users… you’re barely an upgrade from an NPC.” He now scoffed. “You can’t play this game.”
“Ah yes, Players…” The man stated now, laughing again. “This game that has caused you to abandon your humanity, become little more than ethereal wraiths, clinging to this energy, your system, as if it was your mother…” The man continued to speak, as Ryuu stirred in the crowd.
“Did that fool just tell me about my mother?”
“You Meta-Humans could never be the next step in human evolution… because by definition, you are not human. To live in your shadows as you rise to take the place of the dominant species, a title that we claimed millennia ago, would be a travesty.” The man ranted before another channel spoke out.
“Your machinations are at least founded, each of us is far more than what this race was a century ago… but this war of yours is unnecessary. There is no division between us; we are all as we were, still human.” A man with light brown hair now spoke, his deep blue eyes staring into his opponent, as if to pierce him with this gaze.
“Hah.” The leader of the power-users now laughed loudly. “Your leader should have shut us down while he had the chance… it’s too late for you now… tonight, your race comes to an end. First we’ll exterminate you, then the others that resist… once this done, the rest will have two options… abandon this folly and fall in line, or suffer your fate.”
“Enough of this, you peons will all die now…” A man with wild hair now spoke out, charging a hazy blue energy around his form as the rush of all of the other channelers powering into their various Omega Drives now flowed over the observer. This rush of ether seemed to destabilise her powers enough to end the dream, throwing her back to consciousness with whip-lash like repercussions.
The psychic back-lash would spill over to affect those linked to her: her husband, four sons and her toddler grandson, disturbing their various activities and notifying them all that something was wrong.
