First Contact
To some it was still like a dream, the event that brought the entire Channeler Network and to an extent, the world, to a standstill. Since that day, channeler activity had been exceptionally slow and law enforcement was on high alert while the world struggled to make sense of this catastrophe.
The towering structure that hosted the Oyan invaders now dominated the Greenland landscape, and the artificially recovered land that now connected Greenland to its more fertile neighbour Iceland only served to display just how measureable a change their presence had brought to Terra. It was odd, the suddenness of it all. Never before had the Gaia phenomenon been observed to manifest so quickly, or so extensively… in fact, everything about this event seemed ominous. The rift, which now stretched over the oceans between Eastern Canada and Western Europe, was remarkably stable, effectively and apparently permanently fusing the realms of Terra and Oya in this location. The Geographical squares labled A8 through B10, were now barred off thanks to a sanction by the United Nations, restricting travel to and from nations within that area, as well as rerouting all flights that would previously have passed through this area around the vicinity, while the political orientation and military might of the Oyan nation that appeared was being accessed.
As a result, very little information about the new nation, which referred to itself as Osiire was available. From information leaked by the U.N. Peace Keepers and Enforcers, deployed to maintain the borders and deal with any possible military situations which developed as a result of the quarantine, all that was known was that the Oyan family which inhabited this area was benevolent.
The fusion of the realms had left in its wake a number of both Terran and Oyan casualties, as well as a huge number of heavily injured civilians and damaged infrastructure. In addition to U.N. assistance, it seemed that a number of other Oyan Families were also assisting in the rebuilding of area, due to the amicable relations between those clans and the inhabitants of Osiire. This made for a very interesting, but volatile atmosphere within the area, as Terrans and Oyans began to interact for the very first time in a controlled environment.
Due to the peculiarities of movement in and out of the area, political analysts had been hypothesising that some kind of council had been formed to approve or deny each individual that applied for passage in to or out of the area, and as such, they had assumed that a similar group existed in Oya to facilitate the same function. The two would then have to coordinate to ensure that those entering this shared space would not enter from the same space at the same time, to avoid the ethereal fallout that occurred when this happened. In addition to that, this seemed like the way most likely to avoid a clash of military might within the devastated area, while allowing volunteers from both realms to feel safe as they assisted with the restoration effort.
In that light however, it could not be said that they were no conflicts, as the initial confusion saw quite a number of channeler battles, some to the death, as well as a smaller number of very unfortunate and equally short conflicts between Oyan channelers and Terran users. Luckily however, the numbers of these battles were far fewer than would have been predicted, and was said to be linked to the abilities of the ruling family of Osiire, who are acclaimed to possess the ability of pre-cognition. Despite the reason, with an increased military presence within the area, both Terran and Oyan, and increased law enforcement, conflicts were reduced to a bare minimum, simply leaving the world to wait and watch as the anxiously awaited the outcome of the First Contact.
