Act of Terror
“An act of terror?” Tyler Cage exclaimed as Daniel Hattori, a member of the elite group K-Four debriefed the field team of the Rogue Special Forces. “Have you guys managed to figure out whether or not it was an Oyan or a Terran party behind the attack?” She inquired now, causing Daniel to nod.
“We are most certain that it was a Terran party, an anti-channeler group which originated in Russia is the most likely candidate for the persons behind the assault.” Daniel explained, causing Tyler to raise an eyebrow at the specificity of the intel so soon after the incident.
“You guys are pretty quick...” Commented Roun now, equally sceptical of the rate at which the information had been gather.
“This information was not gathered without help.” Daniel replied, causing the team to look on with curiosity. “We had actually been tipped off to the attack some time prior to its occurrence.” Daniel explained now, further puzzling the group.
“By whom?” Paco Stryfe now inquired, causing Daniel to look towards Roun. This caused the young Itami to puzzle shortly before it dawned on him.
“My mother saw this?” He inquired now, causing Daniel to nod.
“This is the first step in the realisation of a vision which you mother saw more than a year ago.” Daniel explained. “Acting under her intelligence, we managed to secure the area before the assault, this was the only reason why casualties could actually been completely avoided. Had it not been for her foresight, things would not have gone as smoothly as they did.” Daniel explained, causing Roun to nod slowly.
“So what else has Mrs. Itami told you?” Yasmin inquired now.
“Unfortunately, not very much. Up until this point her visions are sporadic at best, and with her recent reversion on the Psychein realm, she has been unable to utilise her psychic abilities.” Daniel explained, bringing a slightly mused look to Roun’s face.
“My mother will be out of reversion by tomorrow.” Roun informed the group. “But I don’t think that we should rely entirely on her to sort out this situation.” He commanded before he was interrupted.
“The Itami is right...” Came an oddly familiar voice as every turned their eyes to the doorway.
“The prodigal son returns...” Tyler spoke now, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
“...just stopping in.” Hyaku retorted before turning his attention back to his former Commanding Officier. “This anti-channeler group seems to have some pretty powerful allies, even Ultima was unable to see the event until it was already underway, suggesting that these... users... have somehow found a way to mask their movements temporally.” Hyaku explained as he learned against the door post.
“That is correct.” Daniel interjected now. “The technology is a painfully simple one; it’s a surprise that it hadn’t been developed before...” He sighed now. “We believe that these terrorists have acquired a prototype device developed by a young scientist by the name of Markus Mirakama, and backwards engineered it to develop this new temporal jamming device.” He explained, causing Nicola’s eyes to widen.
“Mirakama...” Serai thought now, the name rang a bell.
“Yes, the young man is a relative of the Commandant Mr. Dante.” Daniel explained. Serai nodded now, back before his exorcism from Leonardo, he was the one who had been put in charge of locating and retrieving the young scientist from his kidnappers. The faction had been hot on their trail since the fusion, but they lost track of their targets after the worlds had merged. The group of channelers paused now before the silence was broken by Roun.
“So Hyaku, what else do you know?” Roun inquired.
“Not a whole lot, and neither does SABER... which is interesting because they usually tend to be well informed.” Hyaku retorted. “The only person that I can think of that may be able to help you track the technology would be Alexander Drago... he tends to be involved in a lot of ‘under-the-counter deals’... if you know what I mean.” Hyaku explained.
“I see...” Roun replied.
“And if that doesn’t pan out, our only chance of finding out what these guys are up to is locating either this device, or the man who developed the technology behind it.” Tyler reasoned, causing her charges to nod.
“Fair enough, me and Hyaku can deal with Drago.” Roun volunteered, drawing a raised eyebrow from Hyaku, who had long since resigned from official Rogue duties. “The rest of you can get to work on locating the good old doctor.” Roun finished, causing Tyler to nod.
“Serai, you can pick up where Leonardo left off... Paco and Yasmin, you two can be creative as usual. I will call in some favours and see what I can dig up.” Tyler commanded now, causing everyone in attendance to nod.
“Before you go, you should know that we’re working with the Russian government on this matter. At present there is a very strong anti-channeler sentiment in that country so I want you to keep your activities to a minimum when you’re within that territory.” Daniel explained “These are trying times, we cannot afford to have an international incident on our hands.” He finished.
“Understood...” Roun replied now as he looked towards Hyaku. “Guess you should leave SABER at home.” He smirked as everyone now began to dismiss, leaving the two standing in the doorway.
“So, who told you that I came back to work?” Hyaku inquired matter-of-factly.
“Heh, why else would you be here?” Roun inquired. “Destroyer or not, you’re a Rogue, this is what you do.” He retorted.
“You have erred...” Hyaku replied, turning to leave the facility, leaving Roun to just smirk and shake his head.
“Fine then, I’ll do this alone.” Roun smirked, moving off to contact his personal squad, so that they could head off to Russia. On the outside, Hyaku would enter the large Kurudo that now held the extended members of SABER, stopping to have a brief conversation before the doors slammed shut and the Medium Assault Vehicle took off.
Sitting in the back of the vehicle, Hyaku dawned a devious grin. “It starts.”
