Raging Flames (31/12/2499 AF)

"It was believed that in the beginning, in an attempt to protect itself, our world summoned four great guardian souls.  Today, whosoever these souls resided in was considered to be one off the chosen guardians and when one of these guardians was killed, the soul would be reborn as a new guardian to take his place.  Much like our souls, even these great souls were not limitless and even those with the strongest of faith, knew that one day, the guardians would weaken and eventually cease to be reborn.  This was a fate for which we spent centuries preparing, grooming our young to become the entities that would eventually replace these great Monoliths.  However none could have foreseen the twist of fate that would plunge the world into the madness that it was destine to fall into.

There is an unchallenged rule of nature, which clearly shows that energy simply cannot be created or destroyed... only manipulated, wielded and changed but never destroyed.  It is from this knowledge that our physical laws were derived. It should have been no surprise to us then, that Khaaos and Synchros possessed the ancient energies of their names sake... But, unlike guardians before them, their powers grew unchecked, and now they are beyond absolution.  Reaching powers only attained by the nemeses of humanity, the infamous Destroyers, their power is now absolute... and equal to that is their delusion. The madness that torments them both has driven them to the destruction of civilisation, as we know it, and I can only wait and hope that Geon is quickly awakened within my young ward Enree... he will need to carry on my work, when I depart."

Dias saved his notes, imprinting it on the ether node, hopefully for others to see and avoid the same twist of fate that they had so blindly fallen into.  Once done, he made his way to the area that Khaaos had named as the final battlefield for his army and that of his nemesis Synchros.  Dias arrived on the scene at the dawn of the battle, in time to see the primary charge of both armies. The battle lacked tactics and devolved into a savage brawl as the armies collided. From his viewpoint, hundreds of metres in the air, Dias sighed as the specs merged into a black pool that slowly became red as Synchros and Khaaos entered the fray. The members of their armies we like insects before the strength of their weapons, and with one swift combo of each, his opponent's army was decimated.

"Mortal man has no business in the duels of Gods." Synchros laughed.

"And mere children have no business in the affairs of men." Khaaos replied with a dry grin, gazing down at Synchros, to whom he was obviously senior.

"My youth will be your demise." Synchros retorted, summoning his dark armour and readying himself for the final battle.

"Your inexperience will be your death, and as a result I will open the new century as--"

"Enough. Attack me." Synchros interjected, his voice having lost all emotion and tone, as he summoned a large dark metal blade and a flaming gauntlet onto his hand.

The youth's insolence sparked an indiscernible barrage of slashes from Khaaos' nodachi which hit nothing but air, sending the energy waves that it propelled off its energy blade to wreak havoc on the landscape behind them. Synchros smirked arrogantly, easily dodging the attacks that his opponent threw at him, calmly waiting for his blaster cannon to finish charging.

"Heh, die." He scoffed slightly; his statement laced with an arrogant amusement as Khaaos lodged the blade of his nodachi into his chest.

Khaaos looked down at the blade with a look of slight bewildering as Synchros began laugh. But his bewildering quickly changed to an sense impending doom as the image that he had impaled faded away, revealing Synchros some distance behind him. He spun and summoned his clawed shield, raising it in time to deflect the massive ball of ionised plasma energy that streamed from Synchros' blaster. The blast raced off of the shield and found it's way to the ground, where it erupted, sending streams of neon green light to the sky before the land exploded in green flames. Khaaos turned his head to the earth and smiled, before his attention trailed back to his young enemy. Synchros raised an eyebrow in confusion as Khaaos began to fade, losing his opacity and then seemingly his cohesion. Within the blink of an eye, thousands of replications of Khaaos covered the battlefield, each wielding his legendary blade.

"Hm. This is new." Synchros commented, as he watched each images begin to pelt him with energy bombs from the nodachi. "Heh, and almost impressive."

Synchros laughed, weaving through the balls of energy, which quickly became larger and of a higher frequency as time went on, until he could no longer dodge them. He scoffed angrily and teleported, landing in the crater left by his opening attack. His feet hit the ground, instantly tripling his running speed, but it would be of no help. The balls of energy redirected themselves, covering the crater with blue energy and overflowing. Khaaos looked down with a pleased smirk, as the energy became unstable and exploded, doubling the volume of the crater and adding his blue flames to the green flames left by Synchros.

"You see how they burn, independent of each other, never merging, each displaying its own colour, its own energy, simply trying to out burn the other. they are like us." Synchros' voice sounded lightly from behind Khaaos, who had now reverted to a singular form.

"Yes, that is why one of us must die, or we will continue to burn, until we consume everything around us."

"Yes, now stand fast while I obliterate you.with my holy judgement!" Synchros exclaimed, dashing backwards to avoid a spinning, horizontal slash from Khaaos. Synchros flew backwards, barely missing the edge of the blade before he guarded the projectile wave with his buster blade and returned fire with his blaster. The blast met Khaaos' clawed shield and split, exploding behind him and dispersing back to its ethereal components.

"Do you feel that?" Synchros questioned, calmly as usual.

"A guardian." Khaaos replied, his voice laced with contempt.

"Do you think he will try to extinguish our flames?"

"That would require a torrent, he is but a drizzle."

".Pity."
